What is lab-grown diamond certification?
A Lab-grown diamond certification or report is a document that details the characteristics of a lab-grown diamond, prepared by a diamond expert. The certification includes information on the diamond's 4C's (Carat, Color, Cut, and Clarity) as well as dimensions and laser inscriptions.
Carat
Carat weight is the weight of the diamond, and it plays a significant role in determining the diamond's value. Color is rated on a scale from D to Z, with D being completely colorless and Z indicating a strong yellow hue. Lab-grown diamonds can vary in color grades based on the quality of the crystal seed and other factors during the crystallization process.
Cut
Cut is the most crucial factor in assessing a diamond's quality, with a well-cut diamond exhibiting the most fire and brilliance. A diamond's cut quality is graded on a scale from Excellent to Poor, based on the precision of symmetry, angles, and proportions.
Clarity
Clarity refers to the presence of inclusions or blemishes within the diamond, which is examined under a 10x magnification. Clarity for lab-grown diamonds is graded on a scale ranging from Flawless (FL) to Included (I), with the lower clarity grades indicating more imperfections in the diamond.
The certificate or report may also include a description of the lab-grown diamond's origin, shape, and faceting style type. Overall, lab-grown diamond certification provides customers with an objective evaluation of a diamond's quality and helps them make informed purchasing decisions.
